Supply Chain Resilience

Building resilient seafood supply chains through ecosystems

Healthy seafood supply chains start with healthy marine ecosystems.

Oyster Heaven builds oyster reefs at an ecologically impactful scale. Our solutions rebuild healthy foundations that fisheries, aquaculture operators, and retailers rely on for predictable, long-term supply.

Rebuilding healthy fish stocks and stable supply chains

Oyster reefs are powerful ecosystem builders

They create nursery and feeding habitats for fish, crustaceans, and shellfish, increasing juvenile survival and supporting the recovery of local stocks. By adding structural complexity to the seabed, reefs strengthen food webs and increase ecosystem resilience.

Reliable supply chains

Healthier ecosystems translate directly into more reliable local seafood supply chains. Strong local stocks reduce dependence on distant or unpredictable sources, helping supermarkets, seafood companies, and producers secure sustainable supply over the long term.

Measurable impact

Studies in Chesapeake Bay show that restored oyster reefs can generate more than €6 million in wild fish and crab value per five hectares over ten years, while reducing exposure to environmental shocks.

IMTA (integrated multi trophic aquaculture) confirms using oysters is an increasingly recognised aquaculture format that enhances growth, production, immunological responses, and environmental management.

Preliminary monitoring of Oyster Heaven reefs in the Netherlands recorded over 12.7 million new epifaunal organisms within the first year.

Cleaner water for aquaculture systems

Cleaner water for aquaculture systems

Preventing eutrophication and algal blooms

Oyster reefs help prevent harmful algal blooms, eutrophication and other water quality related environmental stresses, creating healthier conditions for both aquaculture operations and wild fish populations.

Managing nitrogen and phosphate levels

Oysters naturally filter the water and reduce turbidity. Through feeding, they remove nitrogen and phosphous containing particles from the water.

Natural barriers between aquaculture and land

Oyster reefs could also act as natural barriers between aquaculture sites and the surrounding area, reducing the likelihood of pathogens transferring between locations mitigating the release of harmful chemicals and medicines and helping to regenerate the surrounding ecology.

Oysters are the hardest workers of the sea

Supports ESG certification & regulatory alignment
Supports ESG certification & regulatory alignment

Supports ESG certification & regulatory alignment

Supports climate adaptation, nature-positive strategies, and EU regulatory alignment.

Supports voluntary standards such as: TNFD (nature-related risks and opportunities), CSRD / ESRS (EU), UK Environmental Act targets, SDGs (notably 6, 13, 14, 15).

Oyster restoration can contribute to habitat compensation, environmental permitting conditions such as net-gain requirements.

Can contribute to water-quality targets such as WFD, Clean Water Act, and bathing water regulations.
